Couples Therapy in Northern Virginia —

Including Multicultural Therapy

Navigating a relationship is beautiful, but it comes with unique complexities. Whether you are working through communication blocks or navigating the rich, intersecting layers of a multicultural partnership, you deserve a space where both of your backgrounds are understood and respected. Let’s work together to bridge the gaps, honor your differences, and strengthen your connection.

 Who This Is For?

Every relationship faces seasons of tension, but you don’t have to navigate them alone. Whether you are looking to repair your bond or redefine your future, I provide a dedicated, culturally attuned space for:

  • Communication Breakdowns: Helping you break out of exhausting, repetitive arguments and truly hear each other again.

  • Multicultural Dynamics: Navigating the rich but complex layers of cultural identity, differing values, and expectations within your relationship.

  • Family-of-Origin Tension: Processing external family pressures and boundary challenges so your partnership can come first.

  • Partners at a Crossroads: Supporting you as you navigate major life transitions and intentionally build something new together.

My practice specializes in helping multicultural couples navigate the unique nuances of cultural identity within their relationship. No matter where you stand, if you are partners at a crossroads, we will work to break down old barriers and focus on building something entirely new, resilient, and connected together.

A Therapist Who Gets It

This work is grounded in an understanding that love doesn't exist in a vacuum — every relationship brings together two histories, but in multicultural partnerships, those histories come with their own cultural nuances, family expectations, and outside pressures that not every therapist knows how to hold.

  • Why Cultural Context Matters
Culture shapes how we communicate, how we express affection, how we handle conflict, and how we understand our roles within a relationship. When those pieces get lost in translation, it doesn't just create friction — it can create real isolation between partners who love each other but feel like they're speaking different languages.

  • Multicultural Counseling, Done Right
Multicultural counseling means having a space where neither partner has to over-explain their background or defend their traditions to be understood. I'm not here to referee — I'm here to help you talk about the multiple identities that make each of you who you are, so both of your stories are seen, respected, and woven into a relationship that's actually built to last.

You don't have to navigate this alone. Let's take the first step toward a deeper connection — one that honors every part of both of your stories.

What We Work On

Relationships are dynamic, and challenges can arise at any stage. In our sessions, we actively target the core areas that impact your connection, including:

  • Communication Patterns: Moving away from repetitive, exhausting arguments and learning how to safely voice your needs and truly hear one another again.

  • Family & Cultural Expectations: Navigating the rich but complex layers of differing values, traditions, and external family pressures so your partnership can come first.

  • Identity & Belonging as a Couple: Exploring what it means to blend two distinct backgrounds—especially in multicultural relationships—while creating a shared sense of home.

  • Rebuilding Trust: Creating a secure, non-judgmental space to heal from emotional injuries, repair old hurts, and intentionally restore safety in your bond.

  • Preparing for Major Transitions: Equipping your partnership with the tools needed to navigate massive life shifts, whether you are preparing for marriage, welcoming children, or relocating.

Whether you are working through communication blocks, navigating the rich layers of a multicultural relationship, or standing at a major life crossroads—you don’t have to figure it out alone. Let’s work together to break old cycles and build a resilient foundation for your future.

FAQs

Do both partners need to attend every session?

1

Yes. Couples therapy is a shared process, and having both partners present is essential for building a balanced, safe space. While individual check-ins are occasionally used as a specific clinical tool, regular ongoing sessions always require both of you.

What if my partner is hesitant?

2

It is completely normal for one partner to feel hesitant or nervous about starting therapy. A great way to ease into the process is by joining the free 15-minute consultation call together—it’s just a brief conversation with no commitment, allowing both of you to ask questions and see if it feels like a safe, comfortable fit.

Do you work with unmarried couples?

3

Yes, absolutely. Marriage is not a requirement for couples therapy. I work with all couples—whether you are dating, engaged, living together, or navigating a life transition—who want to improve their communication, break old patterns, and strengthen their partnership.

Do you offer telehealth for couples?

4

Yes, I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for couples throughout Virginia. Online therapy is highly effective for couples and makes it much easier to fit sessions into busy schedules without navigating a commute or arranging childcare. Both you and your partner just need to be physically located in the state during our call.
